CastCount Privacy Policy
CastCount ("the App" or "we") takes your personal information seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant privacy legislation, using appropriate technical and administrative measures.
This policy explains how we handle your information when providing the CastCount service, including the types of information involved, how it is used, shared, stored, and your rights.
Types of Information We Process and Why
CastCount is a local-only app with no account system and no server-side storage. We do not actively collect or retain any personally identifiable information. The following types of information may be involved during your use of the App:
Motion & Health Data
The App reads and writes health data related to your fishing sessions via Apple HealthKit, including activity duration, heart rate, and step count, solely for the purpose of generating fishing records. All data is stored entirely in your device's Health database and is never transmitted to any external server. You may manage or delete this data at any time in the iPhone Health app.
Motion Sensor Data
The App uses the accelerometer and gyroscope (Core Motion) on Apple Watch to collect motion data, automatically detecting and counting casting motions. Raw sensor data is stored only on your device and may be discarded after processing. We do not upload or share sensor data with any third party.
Location Information
During a session, the App may optionally record a GPS track to generate fishing routes and distance statistics. Location data is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to a server or shared with third parties. Shared images do not include map information that could identify a specific location. You may revoke location permissions at any time in system settings.
Weather Information
After a session ends, the App may retrieve a weather snapshot (temperature, wind speed, conditions, etc.) for your location via Apple WeatherKit to enrich your fishing record. This is handled by Apple's WeatherKit service. Weather data is stored only on your device, and a failure to retrieve it does not affect the normal saving of your record.
Photos
You may add a cover photo to a fishing record. Photo data is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to any server.
Purchase Information
Pro features are offered via Apple App Store in-app purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we do not collect or store your payment card number or billing information. The App uses Apple StoreKit only to verify purchase receipts and unlock the corresponding features.
Data Storage & Security
All your data is stored locally on your iPhone or Apple Watch and is not transmitted to our servers. The App relies on Apple platform security mechanisms — including device encryption and app sandboxing — to protect your data. An anonymous identifier used to identify the local user is stored in the device Keychain and is protected by system-level security.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share any of your personal information with third parties, except in the following cases:
- Apple platform services (HealthKit, WeatherKit, StoreKit) process relevant data according to Apple's privacy policy
- Disclosure required by applicable law or regulation
Your Rights
Because the App is built with a local-first design, you have full control over your data:
- Access & Export: You may export your fishing record data from within the App
- Deletion: You may delete any fishing record within the App, or uninstall the App to remove all local data
- Health Data Management: You may manage HealthKit data written by the App in the iPhone Health app
- Permission Revocation: You may revoke location, health, and motion permissions at any time in system settings
Children's Privacy
This App is not intended for children under the age of 13. If you are a minor, please use this App under parental supervision.
Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, we will notify you via an in-app prompt. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
